As goes Amazon, so goes the rest of the world
Amazon sits at the center of every online brand protection program. It's where shoppers start, where sellers are most sophisticated, and where new tactics show up first.
We have a saying: as goes Amazon, so goes the rest of the world. Seller behavior that works on Amazon gets copied across other major platforms very quickly. Dropshipping software lets sellers scan for products that aren't yet listed on other marketplaces, or that are easy to relist there. A problem on Amazon today can become a problem on Walmart, eBay, Temu, and TikTok Shop within a very short time.

What brands are up against on Amazon
- Unauthorized listings that appear overnight. New sellers and duplicate listings can show up on your products with no warning, often faster than a brand can manually check.
- Buy Box losses. Losing the Buy Box to unauthorized or counterfeit sellers is one of the most common complaints we hear from clients. When another seller wins it, your customers can end up buying from someone else while believing they bought from you.
- Brand abuse at massive scale. Amazon has invested heavily in proactive enforcement to fight counterfeits and infringement. But the problem is too large for any platform to solve alone, and abuse still slips through automated protections.
How we enforce on Amazon
We monitor all major Amazon marketplaces and enforce wherever an infringement claim applies.
- Traditional IP enforcement. Trademark and copyright claims against listings that misuse your brand name, logo, product images, or content.
- Counterfeit enforcement. Test purchases to confirm inauthentic products that claim to be genuine, followed by counterfeit reports backed by that evidence.
- Marketplace policy enforcement. Some violations aren't IP issues but break Amazon's own rules: expired or improperly dated products, parallel imports where applicable, and clear third-party misuse of trademarks and copyrights. Enforcing these rules helps keep customers on your real listings.
- U.S. design patent enforcement. Design patents are one of the most challenging rights to enforce on Amazon, and getting Amazon to accept a claim as valid can take extra time and documentation. We've had strong results enforcing design patents for clients.
- AI-altered image enforcement. Sellers increasingly use AI to modify brand images just enough to avoid detection. Amazon's standard reporting tools haven't kept up, and enforcement has required escalations through Amazon's legal department, a process we've become very familiar with navigating.
Counterfeit vs. knockoff: why Amazon's definition matters
Amazon defines a counterfeit narrowly: a product that claims to be the genuine item. This distinction shapes how every enforcement action works.
- Products claiming to be genuine can be reported as counterfeit. Amazon requires a test purchase to confirm the product is fake, so we coordinate test buys as part of the process.
- Knockoffs and lookalikes that use your trademark but don't claim to be the real product aren't counterfeits under Amazon's definition. They're enforced as trademark infringement instead, which carries less serious consequences for the seller.
Filing the wrong report type is one of the most common reasons brand-submitted claims get rejected.

Scan my brand freeA counterfeit claims to be your genuine product. A knockoff or lookalike may use your trademark without claiming to be the real item. Amazon handles each through a different enforcement path.
Amazon needs evidence that a specific seller's product is inauthentic before treating it as counterfeit. A test buy provides that proof and makes the claim far more likely to succeed.
