eBay counterfeit removal
eBay is one of the world's biggest resale marketplaces, which makes it a natural home for counterfeits, gray-market stock and listings built on someone else's photos. Here's how enforcement works on eBay, and how we help brands keep fakes off it.

Why eBay needs its own playbook
eBay mixes brand-new stock, used goods and auction listings from casual sellers and large resellers alike. That variety is what shoppers love about it, and it's also what makes fakes hard to spot: a counterfeit can sit right next to a genuine pre-owned item at almost the same price.
Sellers move quickly, too. A removed listing can come back under a new title, a new item number or a new seller account, often with the same photos lightly edited. One-off reports rarely solve the problem on their own.

What brands are up against on eBay
- Counterfeit listings. Fakes listed as new, using your brand name and product photos to pass as the real thing.
- Unauthorized and gray-market sellers. Genuine products sold outside your approved channels, sometimes imported from other regions or diverted from distributors.
- Listings built on your content. Resellers copy your product photos and descriptions to look legitimate, even when the item in the box isn't yours.
- Re-uploads. Removed listings reappear under new titles, new item numbers or new seller accounts.
How enforcement works on eBay
eBay's Verified Rights Owner (VeRO) program is the main route for rights owners. Brands, or agents acting for them, report listings that infringe their trademarks or copyrights, and eBay reviews each notice.
- Notices of claimed infringement. Each report names the listings and the right being infringed, such as a counterfeit item, unauthorized use of a trademark, or copied images and text.
- You don't need a registered trademark to start. Many eBay takedowns are won with your original product photos and listing dates as proof of ownership. A registered trademark can speed up counterfeit claims.
- Genuine resale is allowed. eBay won't remove a listing just because it's priced below yours or sold outside your channels. Enforcement has to rest on a real infringement, like a fake product or misuse of your photos.
How we enforce on eBay
We monitor eBay for listings that use your brand, products and images, then choose the right report for each one.
- VeRO reporting on your behalf. We file notices as your authorized agent, matching every listing to the right claim type so reports aren't rejected on a technicality.
- Counterfeit evidence. When a listing claims to be genuine, we document what makes it fake and coordinate test buys when they're needed.
- Copyright claims for your content. Your product photography is protected even when the product itself is genuine, so listings built on your photos can come down too, which often exposes counterfeit stock hiding behind stock images.
- Re-upload tracking. We watch for relistings and repeat sellers, document the pattern, and escalate repeat offenders.
Counterfeit or gray market: why the difference matters on eBay
Not every listing that hurts your sales can be removed the same way. The claim has to match what's actually happening.
- Counterfeits claim to be your genuine product. They're reported as counterfeit under your trademark, backed by evidence that the item isn't authentic.
- Gray-market and unauthorized sellers usually sell genuine stock. Being unauthorized isn't enough on its own, but copied photos, misleading claims or altered products can still be enforced, and we help you trace where the stock is leaking from.
Matching each report to the right claim is what gets it accepted the first time.

“Bustem is a total lifesaver. In 6 months, they eliminated hundreds of infringers across Amazon, TikTok, and shady Shopify clones. What blows me away is how fast it is. I drop a scam link in Slack and within minutes it's nuked.”

Scan my brand freeeBay's Verified Rights Owner program. It lets owners of trademarks, copyrights and other intellectual property, or agents acting for them, report listings that infringe their rights so eBay can review and remove them.
Not just for being resold: authentic items can generally be resold. We can act when a listing infringes your rights, for example by using your copyrighted photos or misusing your trademark, and we help trace where the stock comes from.
Sellers often relist under new titles or accounts. We watch for relistings and repeat sellers, respond with your evidence, and escalate repeat offenders.
It depends on the case. Some listings come down within 24–72 hours; others take longer or involve a seller dispute. Your dashboard shows an estimated timeline for each one.
