Your content is protected from the start
Copyright protects your original content from the moment it's created. Most platforms accept copyright takedowns without a registration, which makes copyright one of the most useful tools available, especially for growing brands that haven't registered trademarks everywhere they sell. Registering copyrights on key assets can still strengthen your position if a dispute escalates.
What copyright can protect
- Product photography and video from your website, listings, and social channels
- Ad creative, including images and videos copied into lookalike ads
- Website copy and product descriptions
- Packaging artwork and label design
- Original prints, graphics, and designs

When trademark claims fall short
Copyright often fills the gaps that trademark enforcement leaves:
- Copycats who leave your name out. Many sellers copy your labels, designs, and product pages without using your brand name, so a trademark claim may not apply.
- Brands still registering. Before your trademarks are registered, copyright in your original content is often the fastest path to removal.
- Markets where you aren't registered. On platforms that require regional registrations, unregistered copyright is frequently the only available ground for removal.
Enforcement was successful. Temu removed the listing on Mar 6, and the seller can't relist with your photos.

Proving the content is yours
The strongest copyright claims include direct links to the original image, video, or content on your own website or official ads, the clearest evidence of authorship and ownership. Because websites and campaigns change constantly, keep dated archives of your creative assets so you can point to the original even after it's been replaced.
Design with copyright in mind
Where possible, build original artistic elements into your packaging, labels, and product designs. Those elements can support copyright claims later, giving you another way to act when copycats avoid your trademark.
AI-altered copies
Copycats increasingly use AI to change backgrounds, colors, models, or small details in your content. Altering your work doesn't erase your rights to it, and an AI-modified copy can still infringe your copyright. These cases usually take more evidence and sometimes escalation beyond standard reporting tools.

How Bustem helps
Bustem monitors marketplaces, websites, social platforms, and ads for copies of your content, files copyright takedowns backed by links to your authorized sources, and escalates AI-altered and hard-to-remove cases. Copyright enforcement works alongside trademark enforcement so every available right is used.
A tool for exposing counterfeits
Copyright enforcement does more than remove copied content. When resellers can no longer use your official product photos, they have to show what they're actually selling, which often reveals counterfeit products hiding behind your images.

“I didn't know what to expect, but they blew me away. Within weeks, they flagged and removed dozens of fake TikTok accounts, Instagram ad scams, and Shopify copycats we didn't even know existed. They move insanely fast, everything's communicated in Slack, and you can tell they actually care.”

Scan my brand freeUsually not for platform takedowns. Copyright exists when the content is created, and most platforms accept claims without a registration. Some platforms may require registered rights for certain complaint types.

The product itself can usually be resold legally, but your photos and content can't be used without permission. Enforcing that copyright removes the listing and forces the seller to use their own images.
An altered copy can still infringe your copyright. These cases typically need more evidence and sometimes escalation.
