Why Temu matters

Temu, owned by PDD Holdings, has risen rapidly in popularity, surpassing many older, well-established marketplaces. It's positioned around unbranded, generic goods, but brands frequently find knockoffs, lookalikes, and design-infringing versions of their products listed there.

Temu has been expanding its own enforcement. Its 2026 Intellectual Property Protection Report, covering June 2025 to May 2026, says it tripled the number of brands under proactive monitoring to more than 15,000, and that its ratio of proactive removals to reactive takedowns rose to 331:1.

"Unbranded" doesn't mean genuine

Similarweb data shows Temu's website traffic making huge year-over-year leaps, but that's only part of the story. Temu is primarily a shopping app, so much of its activity never shows up in website rankings at all.

Temu's parent company, PDD Holdings, also operates Pinduoduo, one of the largest shopping platforms in China. Temu arrived offering extremely cheap merchandise that was supposed to be unbranded, and therefore not counterfeit. In practice, that isn't the reality, and Temu has become a significant concern for the brands we protect.

Temu appears to be here to stay. Its huge user base, direct ties to wholesale manufacturers, and aggressive marketing make it a platform brand owners can't afford to ignore. If Temu isn't already part of your brand protection program, it should be.

How enforcement works on Temu

  • The IP Portal. Temu's notice-and-takedown channel for reporting suspected infringement. A Temu account is required to file. Report types include trademark infringement (separating misuse on the product page or packaging from physical counterfeits), copyright, and design and utility patents.
  • The Brand Registry Portal. Lets rights holders store and manage their trademark and other IP information, so future enforcement requests move faster without resubmitting the same documents.
  • Proactive screening. Temu vets sellers before they can list, and combines image-based detection with reference material supplied by rights holders.

How we enforce on Temu

The good news: Temu has shown real willingness to work with brand protection agencies and rights holders, and its takedown processes have improved as it has grown into one of the world's largest sales platforms.

Our Temu enforcement currently has a takedown success rate of about 90%. Temu isn't the fastest platform we work with, though. Much of the delay comes from Temu's aggressive IP address blocking, which makes automated compliance checks harder and slows both confirmation of removals and overall takedown times. We account for that in how we monitor and follow up, so enforcement stays on track even when checks take longer.

“Within the first month, Bustem removed over 200 infringing listings that were stealing sales from us. We just get daily wins dropped into Slack without lifting a finger. It's a complete game-changer.”

Through Temu's IP Portal, which requires a Temu account. You'll need proof of your IP rights and the URLs of the infringing listings.

The IP Portal is for filing takedown requests. The Brand Registry Portal stores your IP information so future requests move faster.

Yes. Temu's IP Portal accepts design and utility patent reports. We don't often need to rely on design patents on Temu, but when we do, our success rate is 94%.

Longer than on some platforms. Our success rate on Temu is about 90%, but Temu's aggressive IP blocking slows automated compliance checks, which extends takedown times.
